In the shopping streets you are being bombarded with commercials and ads. The ideal Chinese woman is beautiful, takes care of one child and knows how to cook. The Chinese landscape exists out of green hills with preferable an ever lasting rainbow hanging over them and for animals China is a true heaven.
The last months Tanis has been photographing in Beijing, Hong Kong and Macau. The image that is being created by the commercials is rarely seen. With Blind Dogs, Fallen Men Tanis wants to look behind the façade. He looks for elements that are often being ignored or seem to be invisible. With his work he can literally enlarge them and make them visible.
Aram Tanis graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and did his two year residency at De Ateliers in Amsterdam where he was guided by Marlene Dumas, Steve McQueen and Fiona Tan among others.
He exhibited his work around the world, including at Witte de With (Rotterdam / NL), Van Abbe Museum (Eindhoven / NL), CCD Photospring Festval / Arles in Beijing (Beijing / CN), Coalmine (Winterthur / CH), General Store (Sydney / AU), The F.U.E.L. Collection (Philadelphia / USA), MK Gallery (Berlin / DE), Olympic Parktel (Seoul / KR), Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande (Bologna / IT), Westminster University (London / UK), Arti et Amicitiae (Amsterdam / NL), London-Photo (London / UK), Museum Winterthur (Winterthur / CH), Photo Festival Naarden (Naarden / NL), Vegas Gallery (London / UK), International Festival for Photography (Athens / NL), FOAM (Amsterdam / NL) and Frankfurter Kunstverein (Frankfurt / DE).
