3D-printing is slowly spreading out, involving all the aspects of our life: one of the latest innovations presented in Milan a few months ago are the 3D-printed glasses and sunglasses created by the Israeli designer Ron Arad.

Co-founder of the PQ Eyewere brand, Arad showcased his collection at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan, explaining the reason of this innovative idea by saying that “there’s nothing new in the eyewear sector”.

The frames are obtained through the nylon SLS (selective laser sintering) method and are available in several colours. Arad has been working with 3D-printing since 1999 and was one of the first designers to use 3D-printing for the production of vases, lights and jewels.

The “A-frame” line models stand out for their versatility: they can actually adapt to every type of face thanks to their flexible extension frame system.

The frame, branded with an A, consists of a sophisticated wire system that allows for the lenses to be separated, brought closer to each other or automatically close up upon removing the hinges.

The names of the models are eccentric as well: “Oxford Circus”, “Tottenham Court Road”, “St. Paul’s” and on with the other stops of the London tube for both sunglasses and glasses.
