Roslyn Julia is from a small town in western NY called Corning. She completed a two year associates degree in Fine Arts and Design from the SUNY school, Corning Community College. She currently attends the BFA Photography program at The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Her work illustrates a quest of finding one’s own place in the world and reflecting upon it. The images transcend reality to show a fleeting moment, that like a memory, will not be remembered in full clarity. The vast and seemingly empty scenes reveal a paradox of hope and hopelessness within one image. All of her work explores perception and inner being, lending room for contemplation and even a feeling of nostalgia.

Artworks by Lech Majewski http://www.lechmajewski.com

The Wapping Project is an old hydraulic power station constructed in 1890, situated in East London, converted in a culture venue as well as in an alternative restaurant serving a daily changing menu.
The so called Wapping Food is more than the typical café you can usually find alongside galleries, offering coffee and tea to the exhibition-goers and art passionate.
In fact the space is fundamental as an economical support for the gallery, considering that the venue doesn’t receive any government funding and that it was converted without the gain of any money lottery. On the side of those economical reasons, the restaurant has a crucial role in grabbing the attention of a large variety of audience, which may happen to be there without being aware of the intriguing artistic corner hidden in the back of the main room. The Wapping Project can be seen as an opportunity to show and demonstrate in a suggestive way the historical post-industrial setting nature of the East Thames.

The gallery became a cultural site for the showcasing of sculptures, installations, moving image works and screening video installations.
Moving Walls is a video installation by a renowned Polish poet, writer, artist and filmmaker called Lech Majewski. His artworks have been recently displayed in some of the world’s most famous art events such as the Venice Biennale.
This is the artists’ first solo performing in London, despite having an impressive track record which includes screenings at the Berlinale, Louvre and Whitechapel gallery and a recent solo show at New York’s MoMa.
The installation consists in transforming the walls of the hydraulic power station in a canvas projection of live paintings from the series Brueguel Suite, Blood of a poet, DiVinities and Dog Field. In the artworks taken from this unique digital tapestry is shown an interesting use of 3D effects composing a layer upon a later in terms of perspective, as well as the use of new CG technology to achieve a perfect representation of atmospheric phenomena.
Lech Majewski studied at the Krakov Academy of Fine Arts, he graduated in Poland from the National Film School based in Lòdz and in 2000 he became a voting member of the European Film Academy.

The Wapping Project Bankside is currently hosting, until the 30th June 2012, a photography exhibition entitled “This is not a house”, commissioned by the New York Times Magazine.
The artist is called Edgar Martin, born in Portugal but grown up in Macau, China. In 1996 he moved in the UK, where he is still living, in order to attend an MA in photography and fine art at the Royal College of Art.

This is not a House is a project with an interesting social aspect, and it is evident that it had an important meaning to the artist despite the fact of being the result of a commission.
It all started in 2008, when the New York Times magazine asked the photographer to represent the crisis of mortgage industry as well as the collapsing impact on the real estate market in the States.

Edgar Martins then decided to analyse the problem by using an artistic point of view instead of taking a documentary photojournalistic approach. He uses fiction to explain reality. By setting out to photograph abandoned and ruined homes, golf courses, hotels, even banks to express the crisis. As he stated, his project can be defined as ‘a photographic intervention into a crisis, a crisis that is only in part economic’.

When “This is not a house” was first published in 2009, it created a feisty debate consequently to his way of reshaping with detailed digital techniques some of the images.

Edgar Martins exposed his artworks all over the world, recent exhibitions include the 54th Venice Biennale, Museum of Electricity, Lisbon, The New Art Gallery, Walsall, Belém Cultural Centre (Lisbon) and the Centro Cultural Hélio Oiticia (Rio de Janeiro).

After being hosted at the Wapping Project Of London, the exhibition will move in 2013 to the Tullie House Art Gallery & Museum and the Ffotogallery (Wales).

Tito Mouraz was born in 1977 in Canas de Senhorim, Portugal. He finished the Visual Arts and Photography course in the Superior Art School of Oporto (Escola Superior Artística do Porto) in 2010, being this the city where he lives and works currently. Exhibits regularly since 2009 in Portugal and abroad, being the most relevant exhibitions in Encontros da Imagem de Braga (2010) and Módulo – Centro Difusor de Arte (2011). He is represented by Módulo – Centro Difusor de Arte, Lisbon (Portugal). His work is present in the BES Art public collection.

Open Space Office
The series presented here was shot in Portugal over a 2-year period and represents a transformed landscape that portrays the existence of Man as a constructive, reconstructive and contemplative being. The landscape appears completely and irreversibly transformed and it was this transformation that caught my eye and fueled my interest in conducting this project, basing it on this very landscape.
Thus, the work presented aims to portray a reality that suffers an ongoing daily process of rapid transformation. Therefore, the pictures show a temporary reality inserted in a natural landscape undergoing progressive transmutation. They are unique and imposing spaces with a undeniable visual impact which bestow on the images a strong formal and plastic content. I would like to emphasize that these were the aspects I concentrated on and attempted to visually portray the best that this intervention could present to the eye, both in relation to the formal configuration and in relation to the chromatic and lighting harmony that characterize these spaces that create a unique environment. In this way, we can behold a dialogue between Nature and Man’s action, between harmony in a texturized cutting and what develops in it, what involves and transforms it, as is particularly visible in the first images of this series, that portray the idea of an organic whole.
I find it difficult to transmit on film the personal experience and all that one feels and observes at these immense and torn sites, where silence is felt in an unnatural and intimidating way. It is a well know fact that an image cannot replace reality. That is why I chose to include parts of a hidden horizon or an incomplete landscape, in this way suggesting a different perspective, since the proximity to these sites which grow in the opposite direction to what is normal, are usually unobserved by the spectator almost giving them the chance to rebuild them.

Cláudia Baúto is a 26 years old photography lover from Lisbon, Portugal, who does not consider herself a photographer yet, but wants to take it seriously in time.

She’s not the kind of photographer that likes to photograph everything, or that carries her camera everywhere she goes, that’s really not her method or even the reason she loves to photograph. She’s a little selective when comes to subject. So what really attracts her is to capture people, portraits, spontaneous and/or staged and create a story around that.

Mostly because her biggest inspiration comes from music and the emotions involved in it, when she creates images with a concept, by telling a story, she tries to carry the music to the photograph. So music comes first, and then photography. Along with this, she’s also a big fan of fashion editorials, so surely some inspiration, especially in composition, comes from it, as the desire to grow into fashion photography.
