In the beginning 2013, I had a chance to visit to Norway. It was a voyage that is known to be one of the most beautiful in the world. It was beautiful indeed, and actually my first time to go to Europe. My stereotyped knowledge that the land of the Vikings, very rough and extreme, was slightly different from the reality, of course.
I started the trip with a 7 hour train ride from Oslo to Bergen. We had to go over the steep mountain to get to the port where the cruise ship departs for Kirkenes. We didn’t have a storm like they had one a day before we arrived which had closed all the lines, but we didn’t have clear sky either. The sky was covered with thick clouds, so even if the northern lights appeared we wouldn’t be able to see them.
The scenery from the ship was so solemn. When I saw it the first time, I couldn’t imagine how people could settle down in such a tough environment. The mountains are so steep and the water is so deep. However, as the time past by, I began to understand the reason why they could. The land was very rich with mountain products, and the water was full of many kinds of seafood.
With my photos, you cannot see the rich mountains and water as I just described, but I hope you can imagine what life may be like behind the beautiful winter scenery in my book. The people in Norway are living with this tough natural environment literally. They keep the awe toward the surroundings. I could feel deeply when I spoke to people during the journey. I hope you’ll feel same way through my photos.
I put the photos in chronological order, and hopefully you enjoy the voyage like I did.
