Everybody knows the KaDeWe in Berlin, the most established department stores in Germany.
On Saturday, April 30th 2016 the KaDeWe has teamed up with photographer Rankin to invite Berliners to take part in “Portrait of Berlin” a live, experiential photo shoot.

These unique portraits will be arranged by Rankin and KaDeWe into a visually striking artwork to be exhibited along a 5m high and 110m long street level gallery, covering the store during the takeoff of its renovation.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to experience one of the biggest photo shoots in Germany and to be photographed by Rankin, whose iconic images have included everyone from David Bowie, Jay-Z,
Vivienne Westwood and Kate Moss to the Queen. Rankin has a portfolio ranging from portraiture to documentary; he co-founded the magazine Dazed & Confused.
Following the huge success of the London show in 2009, Rankin Live continues to gain momentum around the globe and has now successfully taken place Milan, Paris, LA and beyond.

“It’s a huge honor to be asked by KaDeWe to come and shoot a portrait of Berlin. It’s a city I love and wish I could get to spend more time in. This iconic department store is a real jewel in Berlin’s crown, and I’m looking forward to meeting and celebrating the people of this great city” Rankin said.

In addition, dedicated viewing areas with exclusive Rankomats – selfie booths configured by Rankin Studios – will be set up to allow a wider audience to participate in the event.
