This year, the summer techno demonstration was protesting against GEMA, which is increasing dramatically music fees for clubs and events . ( GEMA is a German performance rights organization that charges fees for the public use and reproduction of music ) The demonstration was also giving support to the Russian activists Pussy Riots, blasting music in the streets of Berlin with their 17 music trucks.

The event began in 1997 as a demonstration against the increasing commercialisation of culture and public life and the misuse of the right of assembly by purely commercial ventures, in particular the Love Parade.
