The juries for the 74th Venice Film Festival

The composition of the four international juries – Venezia 74, Orizzonti, Venice Virtual Realty and the Premio Opera Prima “Luigi De Laurentiis” – for the 74th Venice Film Festival, directed by Alberto Barbera and organized by the Biennale of Venice, presided over by Paolo Baratta, has been announced: let’s discover them.

For this jury, the personalities called to be part of the Festival, besides the American actress and president Annette Bening, are:


Ildikó Enyedi, Hungarian director and screenwriter well known for her My 20th Century, which made her win the Golden Camera in 1989 at the Cannes Film Festival She lately won the Golden Bear with her last film On Body and Soul at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.

Anglo-Australian film critic David Stratton, who directed the Sydney Film Festival for almost twenty years and has been part of many juries, including Venice, Cannes and Berlin. He was also a collaborator of Variety for 20 years; he conduced and produced many TV shows about cinema.

Actress Jasmine Trinca, one of the most important performers in Italy. In 2017 she won the Un Certain Regard for Fortunata as Best Actress.

British director, screenwriter Edgar Wright; he is famous for the Three Flavours Cornetto film trilogy, consisting in comedy films. At the moment, he is in the theatres with Baby Driver, which will be in Italy from the 7th September.

Director, producer, screenwriter Yonfan;
lived in Taiwan and at the moment is in Hong Kong, he produced and directed all of his thirteen films.

The awards are: Golden Lion (for the best film), Silver Lion – Gran Premio della Giuria, Silver Lion – Best Director, Coppa Volpi – Best Male/Female Performance, Best Script Award, Special Award of the Jury, Marcello Mastroianni – for young, emerging actors/actresses.

Orizzonti
The jury members for Orizzonti are:
Italian director Gianni Amelio, who is the president of the jury. He has his debut in 1982 with Colpire al Cuore and won the Golden Lion in 1998 with Così Ridevano. This year he won the Nastro D’Argento Prize for Best Film with La Tenerezza.

Rakhshan Banietemad, one of the most famous Iranian female directors, author of many documentaries and fiction films like Under the Skin of the City and Our Times.

American female director Ami Canaan Mann, who has her debut in 2001 with Morning.

Irish and Scottish director, screenwriter, curator Mark Cousins, famous for his monumental The Story of Film: An Odyssey, a 930-long documentary on the history of cinema.

Argentinian screenwriter, architect, art curator Andrés Duprat, who wrote the script of The Distinguished Citizen, which made the actor Oscar Martinez win the Coppa Volpi in Venice. Duprat is also the art curator of the Argentinian Pavilion of the International Art Exhibition in Venice.

Belgian female director, screenwriter Fien Troch, who won as Best Director in the Orizzonti category at the last Venice Film Festival.

French female screenwriter and director Rebecca Zlotowski, who has entered Planetarium, a 2016 film with Natalie Portman, in the Out Of Competition category.

The awards are: Premio Orizzonti – Best Film, Best Director, Best Female/Male Performance, Best Script, Best Short Film, Special Award of the Jury Orizzonti.

Prize Venezia Opera Prima “Luigi De Laurentiis”
For this category as president, Benoît Jacquot, French director and screenwriter, author of the 2006 The Untouchable, which made Isild Le Besco win the Marcello Mastroianni Prize, and 2014 film 3 Coeurs.

Geoff Andrew, film critic, professor and programmer, has worked for TimeOut and has been a consultant for the programme of the London Film Festival.

The award for this category will be the Lion of the Future – Award Venezia Opera Prima “Luigi De Laurentiis” and 100 thousand USD, which will be provided by Filmauro and equally divided between the director and producer.

Venice Virtual Reality
The personalities chosen for this category are:
as the president, John Landis, American director who has given so much to the cinema in these past forty years with films like Animal House, The Blues Brothers and so on. Into The Night will be shown at this year’s Film Festival completely renovated.

Celine Sciamma, French screenwriter and director, became famous thanks to her second film Tomboy, presented in Berlin and winner of many prizes.

Ricky Tognazzi, Italian director and prolific actor, has presented in Venice in 2011 Tutta colpa della musica, and is also known for the 2003 film The Good Pope: Pope John XXIII.

The awards are: Best VR Film, Gran Premio della Giuria VR, Award for Best Creativity VR.

For this category, the Italian director Giuseppe Piccioni, who has directed many films such as Fuori dal mondo, Luce dei miei occhi, Questi giorni, will be the president of the jury of Cinema students, who will give the awards for Best Renovated Film and Best Documentary on Cinema.
